Hita von Mende is a painter living and working on Vashon Island, Washington. Born in Poland, she grew up in Minnesota and received her degree in art from the University of Minnesota. She studied painting for two years with John Podrebarac, continuing with numerous workshops by William F. Reese, David Leffel, Ray Vinella, Daniel Green, and Joseph Bohler. She is currently preparing for her annual solo show at Silverwood Gallery, opening August 3, 2007, a show at the Clymer Museum of Art, also opening August 3, 2007, and a show this winter in Taos, NM. She received 1st prize in July 2006 at the 13th Annual Juried Art Show in Enumclaw, WA. Her painting, "Just Missed", was chosen for the 2004 Ellensburg Rodeo poster. In 2004 she completed three commissioned paintings for the Rennaissance Hotel in Seattle and is working on another series for the hotel.

In her other life, as Kate Johnson, she is President of Law Seminars International, a national professional educational organization presenting continuing education programs throughout the United States and Canada.
